Crossroads and patience

What does the exponential function ex teach us? If we carefully observe its progress, it reveals an interesting story. When it begins its journey, it hardly shows any growth, it's almost demotivating, to the extent that if one were to predict its trajectory then they would convincingly draw a parallel line to the x-axis. But there is a catch, which is apparent only if one has the patience to observe. The exponential function after some time, demonstrates its triumphant march to glory, it begins to show an accelerated growth, so unlike its foretold character and its prophesied future, almost like a rebel breaking its shackles from the past.

The beautiful parable teaches us about the virtue of patience. Too many times we give up on our efforts because it does not yield immediate results. We’re frustrated too soon and then lose both our calm and clarity. It took us nine months before we set foot on earth, some years of muddling before we found our balance to walk and some five-odd years to read.

Everything, which is worth learning and acquiring takes time and demands patience, and we’re destined to fail in the process, if that is what we decide to call, before we finally succeed. It is easy to catch the FOMO and jump on the bandwagon, but it is a matter of virtue to not let oneself be swayed. Just like the exponential function, we’re cursed to start slow and blessed to triumph high in due process, only if we persevere long enough. At this stage of life, we stand at crossroads where the paths diverge, and we must have the heart to choose the one not taken.
